Welcome to The Dock Ledge

Life at the lake is something most of us yearn for. As lifelong cottagers and boaters, that longing for the water never fades.

For years, we spent our summers renting a cottage in the beautiful Haliburton Highlands with our dogs.

But like many lake lovers, we faced a familiar dilemma at the end of our dock: it was about five feet to the bottom, and the lake-bottom muck wasn't exactly where we wanted to plant our feet.

We wanted a comfortable way to stand in the water and remain part of the dockside party without having to leave the water or touch the bottom.

 The Lightbulb Moment

One summer, we decided to experiment. We took an ottoman from the cottage and sank it into the bottom of the lake right at the end of our dock. It worked, but the lake bed was too soft, and it kept sinking too far into the muck.

We knew there had to be a better way. We went to work designing a sturdy, custom platform that attached directly to the dock itself. It was a massive hit. Even though our first prototype could only support one person, there was always someone on the platform. When our neighbours started paddling and swimming over to ask where they could buy one, we had our lightbulb moment.

We teamed up to bring our idea to market. Through a few years of challenges—including a global pandemic—it took 7 years to finalize the design, test the engineering, and secure a patent.

Today, The Dock Ledge is a proudly Canadian-made company. We believe in building products that are:
